Thank you to all those who have continued to make meals, soups, and snacks for our friends in the Philadelphia region! We have an increased number of visitors to St. Jude and we still provide meals to other parishes, so please continue to make those meals, soups, and snacks through the summer months!
Do you have lots of produce coming from your garden or see great sales at a farm stand? Making meals for others using fresh produce is a great way to share the bounty!
Please see the PDF instructions for preparing a meal kit below.
“I was hungry and you gave Me food. I was thirsty and you gave Me drink.” (Matt. 25:35)
Do you like to cook? Or maybe you like to drive? Even if you just want to help by putting together snack bags with the kids, you could help people in need while doing something you enjoy. You don't have to be a parishioner or even Catholic to volunteer for Caring for Friends, an organization which provides food and friendship to seniors, kids and adults in the 5-county Philadelphia region.
You can help by making meals, soups, or Snack Bags, volunteer to drive extra meals to other freezer sites, or volunteer to be a visitor. We don’t have a great need of visitors in our parish, but we always need meals and snack bags. CFF requests a variety of types of meals, including vegetarian.
Meal-tray tins and supplies are provided in the church and the convent garage. Cooking volunteers fill the tins with meals and bring them to the freezer in the convent garage.
If you don’t want to cook but you still want to help, you can put together snack bags and drop them off in the convent garage. Volunteer drivers take the meals and snack bags to regional freezers once or twice a month.
Please see the attached documents and helpful video below for more information how to prepare the meals or snack bags. If you know of anyone who would benefit from our ministry or if you’re interested in helping, please sign up on this page to get helpful updates, or contact us!

New Look for Meal Kits
The cost of the materials for the Meal Kits has increased by 50%, so Caring for Friends has streamlined the kits. When you prepare the meals, they will no longer have aluminum foil or be in plastic bags. Rather, you will seal them with the cover provided with each kit by crimping down the sides of the aluminum pan. We have made some meals with the new kits and they are actually easier to use, and take up less space.

A big thank you to the Boy Scouts who helped to put together 250 Snack Bags for Caring for Friends in December! The Boy Scouts volunteered on December 21st to help put together snack bags from all of the remaining supplies we had from the last snack bag event. They were able to put together the bags in almost no time and had a lot of fun along the way!
